The Max Sports Central Ohio All-Star Football Game was memorable in a unique way for the five players from Upper Arlington High School.

Although the OCC team for which they played lost 21-7, the final prep contest was held in their home stadium last Saturday.

For defensive lineman Eric Clements, it also represented one last opportunity to put on a football uniform. Clements will play rugby for Ohio University.

"It was great playing on our home field one last time," Clements said. "It felt great putting on the pads one more time."

The Central team, led by the play of quarterback Austin Schlosser of Jonathan Alder and wide receiver Dane Givner of Harvest Prep, made life difficult for the OCC's defensive front seven throughout the game.

Clements was one of the most steady defenders for the OCC, as he had three solo tackles and three assisted tackles.

"It was tough because (the Central) had some big boys on their offensive line," Clements said.

Quarterback Brayden Layer, offensive linemen Travis Calkins and Josh Root and kicker Jared Sylvester also competed from UA.

Layer committed one fumble, threw one interception and also was a part of two other turnovers -- one on a lateral and one on a handoff on a running play -- but completed five of eight passes for 33 yards. He threw a nine-yard pass to Reynoldsburg's Jay R. Taylor with 6:53 remaining for the OCC's only score.

Sylvester kicked the extra point.
