A woodworking company that has spent 10 years in Hilliard is moving to northwest Columbus.

Woodcraft, part of a chain based in West Virginia, has outgrown its facility at 4562 Cemetery Road, franchisee Jim Baumgardner said.

In the next couple of weeks, it will move to an 11,300-square-foot location at 1077 Bethel Road. Woodcraft replaces the former Copenhagen furniture store in a strip center at Bethel and Kenny roads. The storefront is nearly 5,000 square feet larger than Woodcraft's current location, Baumgardner said.

Woodcraft sells a variety of woodworking supplies and fine woods, and offers classes on such techniques as picture framing and lathing. The move will allow the store, the eighth in the 86-unit chain, to double its classroom space.

Baumgardner said about 60 percent of the customer base is men in their 40s, but women also make up a sizeable portion of the business.

"I think we got the whole Baby Boomer generation heading into their 50s and 60s, but they never did anything with their hands," he said. "It's rewarding to do something with your own hands and do it well."
