The ALS Association, Central Ohio and Southern Ohio Chapter, will sponsor the Walk to Defeat ALS on Sunday, Sept. 28, at Fred Beekman Park at the corner of Kenny Road and West Lane Avenue on the campus of Ohio State University.

The ALS Association, Central Ohio and Southern Ohio Chapter, will sponsor the Walk to Defeat ALS on Sunday, Sept. 28, at Fred Beekman Park at the corner of Kenny Road and West Lane Avenue on the campus of Ohio State University.

The walk will raise funds for medical research for ALS (commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease), a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells and pathways in the brain and spinal cord.

The Northwest Civic Association will hold a Candidates Night beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Meadow Park Church of God, 2425 Bethel Road.

The evening will begin with a reception. The program will follow at 7 p.m. The Democratic and Republican candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives 15th District, Ohio House 22nd District, Ohio Senate 16th District, Ohio Attorney General, County Commissioner, Prosecutor, Treasurer, Coroner, Ohio Supreme Court, Court of Appeals and Court of Common Pleas have been invited.

The following candidates have confirmed that they will attend the event: Michael Keenan and John Patrick Carney, Ohio House 22nd District; Danielle Blue, Ohio Senate 16th District; John O'Grady, County Commissioner; Paula Brooks, County Commissioner; Dr. Jan Gorniak, Coroner; Representative of Evelyn Lundberg Stratton, Ohio Supreme Court; Richard D. Brown, Court of Appeals; and Shawn Dingus, Court of Common Pleas.

Additional candidates will be responding.

The candidates will make a brief timed statement, and then take selected written questions. If there are no written questions, questions will be taken directly from the audience.

The duration of the event will be determined by the number of candidates who attend.

The city of Upper Arlington Parks and Recreation Department's LifeLong Learning & Leisure division has announced a new promotion to win an Apple iPod touch by enrolling in an online course.
