The Upper Arlington Chamber of Commerce, under new leadership since February, continues to implement changes.

The chamber recently announced an extensive format change to its annual meeting. Rather than the traditional luncheon gathering at the Scioto Country Club, the upcoming event will take the form of an evening ceremony at Hastings Middle School.

With the theme "Take It to the Extreme," the chamber's 2009 annual meeting will be held Jan. 31 from 5 to 9 p.m.

"This event will showcase many entities, chamber businesses and more," said Becky Hajost, chamber president. "It truly is a strong example of people coming together to celebrate this wonderful city and business community."

One of the most noticeable changes to the annual meeting is that it will begin with a business expo with information booths showcasing chamber member businesses. Following the expo and dinner, the chamber will host an awards program recognizing local businesses and business owners.

The event will culminate with the inaugural presentation of a video highlighting various aspects of the Upper Arlington community, including local government, schools, steady real estate values, residential quality of life and the strength of the business community.

The changes to the annual meeting come on the heels of a redesign of the chamber's Web site, a revamp of its newsletter, new business network groups and the first-ever chamber member directory circulated beyond the organization's Web site.

There is also a new look to the UA Chamber Business Monthly, which is circulated in ThisWeek in Upper Arlington.

Hajost has overseen many of these changes since the chamber's board of trustees selected her to succeed former president Brenda Schwandt in February.

In preparation for the upcoming annual meeting, the chamber is currently accepting nominations for Business of the Year, New Business of the Year and Best Places to Work awards.
