College Hunks Hauling Junk has renewed its association with the Mid-Ohio Foodbank for 2009, and its spring canned-food drive, "Operation Feed." The 2008 campaign provided more than 4,000,000 meals to the hungry children and families of Columbus and College Hunks will again be on hand to assist with the TV10 Food Parade at the Columbus Zoo.
College Hunks is also hosting a "College Hunk" fundraiser and barbeque at the headquarters in Hilliard on April 25. They have a small warehouse full of items removed during normal operations from Columbus homes and businesses that could not be readily donated or recycled at the time of removal.
College Hunks director of operations Jeff Arpin says, "We've collected and stored everything from soup to nuts." For example, things like patio furniture, garden tools, bicycles, artwork, chairs, books, a freezer, small appliances and electric beds. All in very good condition. Admission and barbeque are free and all proceeds from item sales will go to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank.
People are urged to bring canned foods for donation to the barbeque on April 25. They can also use their canned-food items as cash to help purchase any item they like. A $2 credit for every can of food donated will be applied to the price of your desired purchase. If you donate 20 cans of food and you're interested in the $40, 21-speed bikeit's yours! A win-win for everyone, especially the hungry children in the area. For information, please e-mail:
