Leadership UA's Youth Program just finished another successful year.

Thirty ninth-graders from UA High School and from Wellington met everyother Sunday from early January through May. Our youth program has evolved since its inception from the adult class projects which created it in 1997 and 2000.

Our curriculum now includes leadership style exploration, community service orientations, city government orientation and public relations training.

Our youth will graduate from the program during a party on May 31 at Ten Pin Alley (a bowling alley in Hilliard).
For their class project this year, the youth decided to raise money for a new cause where they saw a need: a newly created Birthday Club for the children at the YWCA homeless shelter.

In order to raise money, the youth held a dance and casino night for other ninth-graders at the Swim & Racquet Club on May 9.

As you can imagine, planning the evening required significant time and effort by the youth class, and they executed the planning and event well.

Following a successful evening, more than $1,000 was raised to start the new birthday fund, which will be used to purchase gift cards for children who are in residence in the YWCA shelter on their birthdays.

Each year, we are inspired by the leadership displayed by the terrific students in our class and we enjoyed working with the young leaders in this year's class.

If you are interested in working with us with our youth program or on any other aspect of LUA's programs (Candidates' Night, the Leadership Panel, UA Green Day or the Adult Class program), just let us know.
