The city hosted its fifth annual Winter Festival and Community Tree Lighting Ceremony Friday, Dec. 4, at Mallway Park off of Arlington Avenue in celebration of the start of the holiday season.

The festive evening included a special visit from Santa, ice-sculpting demonstrations by artist Paul Ahrens, carriage rides and a bonfire where visitors could make s'mores with materials provided by the Mallway Merchants.

A great crowd came out to support the fun-filled event, despite some chilly weather conditions.

Kurt Ludlow of WBNS-10 TV emceed the evening's events, which were highlighted by Mayor Don Leach lighting the city's holiday tree.

Musical entertainment featured caroling by Windermere School fourth-graders directed by Dulcy Delcamp, the ConBrio Children's Choir directed by Emily Gil and the Columbus International Children's Choir, directed by Tatiana Kats.

The Mallway Merchants also offered special discounts on great holiday gift ideas and organized a shop hop raffle prize giveaway with the city and Chamber of Commerce's Retail Committee in support of the Live in UA? Shop in UA! Campaign.

The city would like to thank all the volunteers who helped to make this event possible and a seasonal favorite in the Upper Arlington community.
