Suzy Swanson receives award

Upper Arlington resident Suzy Swanson, board chair of the Girls Scouts of Ohio's Heartland Council, has received the Medical Mutual 2010 Pillar Award for Community Service.

The award is given to individuals and organizations who exemplify a commitment to community and lead by example to help improve the quality of life for central Ohioans.

Swanson received the award for her service on the Girl Scout board since 2002. She has served as board president and chair for the past three years. During her time as chair, she has seen the Girl Scouts through a successful CEO search and large-scale merger of three Ohio Girl Scout councils into one.

The council consolidation resulted in the new Ohio's Heartland Council, headquartered in Columbus and serving girls and adult volunteers in 30 counties throughout the central-north, central, east and central-southern Ohio region. In Swanson's district, there are 35,000 girl members and 10,000 adult volunteers.

Founded in 1912, Girl Scouts of the USA is the premier leadership development program for girls age 5-18.

More information about the Girl Scouts and opportunities to join, volunteer, or donate is available by calling (800) 621-7042 or visiting www.GSOhiosHeartland.org.
