Windermere Elementary School will host a 5K Wish Run to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation on Saturday, May 8.

The run will begin at 9 a.m. in front of the school at 4101 Windermere Road. A one-mile "Fun Run" will begin at 10 a.m.

Last year's event yielded nearly $3,000 for the China Care Foundation. Windermere students selected JDRF as this year's charity because several of the school's students have juvenile diabetes.

Students enjoyed several special events in the weeks leading up to the race, including a pep rally, a poster contest and a running club.

More information is available by calling Pam Dobies at (614) 487-5060, ext. 306.

On Saturday, May 1, books4kids2keep will host a Read-a-thon and book drive at Jones Middle School from 9 a.m. to noon.

A program of the Columbus Rotary Club, the books4kids2keep program provides books to more than 50,000 central Ohio children living below the poverty level.

The Read-a-thon will feature a raffle, face painting and other activities, as well as collection bins for gently used children's books attendees wish to donate.

One raffle ticket will be provided for every five books donated.
