The Arlington's Cultural Arts Division has announced the recipients of this year's Doris Nelson Arts Scholarships and Judith Chalker Literary Arts Scholarship.

The Doris Nelson Arts Scholarship is named for the city's first arts manager. Two $1,000 scholarships awarded to high school seniors in Upper Arlington who plan to continue further study in the arts. These scholarships are awarded to students who create and/or perform in the following arts categories: vocal music, instrumental music, dance, theatre, film, video and visual arts.

Receiving the awards this year are Jennifer Zhou, instrumental music, and Margaret Ann Wunderlich, photography.

Named for the Upper Arlington's second arts manager, the Judith Chalker Literary Arts Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship granted to an Upper Arlington high school senior who plans to continue further study in the literary arts. It is awarded to a student who creates work in fiction, including drama, fantasy, and poetry, or non-fiction, including biography, essay, and narrative non-fiction.

The 2010 recipient is Emily Sigrist.

Through a jury process, the three jurors reviewed work from over more than young artists.

All graduating high school seniors living in Upper Arlington were encouraged to apply for the scholarship awards. These scholarships are possible because of the generous support of UA Arts.
