The Upper Arlington Civic Association will hold its 39th annual Memorial Day 5-Mile Run beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, May 31, on Lytham Road just west of Reed Road.

The Upper Arlington Civic Association will hold its 39th annual Memorial Day 5-Mile Run beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, May 31, on Lytham Road just west of Reed Road.

The event is designed for both serious and casual runners and for walkers, as well. A one-mile run for children will begin at 9:30 a.m. The one-mile event is free for children, but costs $20 for adults and those who want to get a race tee-shirt.

Registration for both the 5-mile and one-mile events begins at 7 a.m. Cost is $30 for the run and $20 for the fun run. Tee-shirts are free to the first 600 who register.

Registration and packet pick-up are also available at Front Runner, 1344 W. Lane Ave.

Awards will be given to the top three male and female overall finishers, as well as the top three male and female finishers in the following age groups: 14-Under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70-over.

This event is the oldest running/walking event in Columbus and is a USATF certified course. Proceeds from the event benefit the Upper Arlington Civic Association and the many activities it sponsors locally throughout the year.

Upper Arlington's three outdoor municipal swimming pools will open at noon Saturday.

Season passes are the economical purchase for pool users, according to the UA Parks and Recreation Department, as they grant daily access to all three pools - Reed Road Water Park, Tremont Pool in Northam Park and Devon Pool at the Mallway.

Individual season passes start at $105 for residents and $159 for non-residents. Seniors can purchase season passes for $70 for residents and $105 for non-residents.

Passes can be purchased in person at the Parks & Recreation Office, 3600 Tremont Road; by mail using the registration form in the Spring/Summer edition of the Activity Guide, or online at www.uaoh.net.

Upper Arlington city offices will be closed Monday, May 31, in observance of Memorial Day.

Refuse and recycling collection will be delayed by one day for all areas, with no Friday yard waste collection. Normal services will resume the week of Monday, June 7.
