Upper Arlington Board of Zoning and Planning chairman Thomas J. Riley is being honored as the public official of the year through the central Ohio chapter of the American Planning Association.

Upper Arlington Board of Zoning and Planning chairman Thomas J. Riley is being honored as the public official of the year through the central Ohio chapter of the American Planning Association.

Riley, who has been a member of BZAP for the past 28 years, was honored Thursday, Oct. 21, at Brazenhead Pub in Dublin.

According to city senior planner Chad Gibson, Riley was instrumental in the community's first major master plan update, which started in 1999.

He also worked on the city's unified development ordinance in 2002.

The American Planning Association was created in 1978 and provides leadership and resources to planning organizations.
