The Upper Arlington Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting its first "City Wide Garage Sale & Business Market" starting at 9 a.m. May 7.

There are bargains galore and one-of-a-kind items for those on the lookout, according to organizers at the chamber. For example, a resident on Jervis Road has a 1960s public address system for sale. Then there are the specials from local businesses, like Graeter's Ice Cream on West Lane Avenue offering free boxed chocolates with any $10 purchase.

Savvy shoppers can visit www.uachamber.org for a list of the 75 or so residents and businesses participating, their addresses and what they're selling or their business special, according to chamber president Becky Hajost. They can map out a route for their shopping, and along the way, possibly eat a local restaurant and look at a home on the market.

"The goal is to attract visitors to the Upper Arlington area, and from the residential side. What we're trying to do is support the real estate market and showcase our area homes," Hajost said. "You're coming to look for an item -- did you realize there were so many different styles of homes in UA?"

Hajost said anyone in UA can have a yard sale on May 7, but those who have signed up through the chamber will have special signage created that they can place in their yard. In addition, the garage sale will be advertised locally.

Hajost said the chamber is planning on making the garage sale an annual event, and incorporating an educational component next year.

"We're excited, and hope the community supports this event because there are so many components as it evolves, and I think it supports many different initiatives," she said.
