Organizers of this year's Volunteer UA are looking for more exhibitors to show the range of opportunities for volunteering available to Arlington residents.

In its fifth year, Volunteer UA is a partnership between the Commission on Aging, the Upper Arlington Public Library, the city, TriVillage Mentor League and Northwest Partners. The annual event - being held in the spring rather than fall this year - gives residents ideas for how they can volunteer in their community by gathering as many exhibitors as possible, said Amy Schossler, executive director of the UA Commission on Aging.

"Over the years we've hosted the program at the municipal center and the high school so that people can see what's available for volunteerism close to home," Schossler said. "We'll be hosting an expo on April 11 at the Upper Arlington Public Library, which will go on all day.

"Things are going very well so far, and we're excited that Hands On Central Ohio has partnered with us this year."

Hands On Central Ohio will conduct presentations throughout the day dealing with how residents can find the "right fit" for themselves in terms of volunteerism.

Emma Speight, deputy city manager for community affairs, said the Volunteer UA expo typically showcases at least 30 area nonprofit and volunteer groups. Past exhibitors have included purely local organizations such as Leadership UA, Northwest Counseling, the Upper Arlington Historical Society, and those with a wider reach, like the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer's Association, Campfire USA and Goodwill Columbus.

Schossler said this year's expo will take place at the Upper Arlington Public Library, 2800 Tremont Road, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11.

Schossler said that there is still room to include other nonprofits and volunteer organizations that would like to exhibit. Those interested can call her at 614-583-5326.
