Photographer Lauryn Byrdy said she found an opportunity when the space next door to her Upper Arlington studio became available.

"I saw a business opportunity and a chance to bring the community together," Byrdy said.

On Thursday, May 10, Clintonville resident Byrdy, owner of Lauryn Byrdy Photography, will host an open house for her newest business venture: The Nest, 1,700 square feet of community-gathering space at 2312 Arlington Ave.

From 5 to 8 p.m., patrons will be able to enjoy live music, food and drinks while exploring the space Byrdy said will be used by different community groups and individuals for local art galleries, yoga classes, charity fundraisers and other functions.

"Hopefully, those give ideas to people," Byrdy said. "It's such a bright, blank slate in there. We're hoping people feel inspired in there."

Byrdy said the best word to describe The Nest is versatile. It will provide additional studio photography space plus areas for meetings, banquets and other functions people can think of, she said.

"It's always going to be an art gallery and anything else you want it to be," she said. "You don't have to decide what you want before you walk in … There's such an incredibly functional use of the space."

This summer, The Nest will host art and photography workshops for children, Byrdy said.

"There's a lot in the works," she said.

As a commercial photographer, Byrdy takes pictures for weddings, families and other businesses, and it was through all these contacts she said she found a demand for the type of space The Nest will provide.

"I probably view myself more as a creative person, and I found photography was just an easier way to express it," she said. "You meet all new people all the time. I was really excited about the opportunity to open space that would bring people together and be creative."
