The Upper Arlington City School district will start the new school year next month with a number of new teachers, one new central office administrator, two new principals and one new assistant principal.

New-teacher orientation days are scheduled for Aug. 7-9 at the central office, Hastings Middle School and Upper Arlington High School.

Personnel Director Steve Phillips said the district has hired 36 new staff members so far.

"We may add two or three more hires in a week or so," he said.

The new central office administrator is Kevin Gorman, the new director of intervention services.

New principals are Emilie Greenwald at Upper Arlington High School and Shelley Hughes at Jones Middle School.

Greenwald was assistant principal to former principal Kip Greenhill, who retired at the end of the school year. The new assistant principal at the high school is Kristina Lucas.

Hughes was also the assistant principal at Jones last school year. The district hired Tammy Yockey as new assistant principal at the middle school.

The orientation days involve new teachers meeting with teacher mentors, Phillips said.

"Each new teacher will have an assigned mentor who will have at least a half-day to spend going through expectations and talking about professional development opportunities, goals and responsibilities," he said.

He said the first day of orientation, to be held at the central office, involves administrators introducing teachers to district policies and procedures and staff health and wellness incentives. It will also include information from teacher leaders and presentations on curricular programs and the International Baccalaureate Middle Years program.

The second day will be all things technology, at Hastings Middle Schools' first-floor computer lab.

On the third day, the teachers will meet with mentors at Upper Arlington High School to discuss professional development opportunities and then spend time in meetings.

Phillips said Tricia Fellinger, global languages teacher-leader, will meet with all new global language staff and mentors, while Neil Bluel, mathematics and science teacher-leader, will meet with new math staff to discuss standards.

New teachers are Kelly Beck, Emily Bell, Carrie Best, Elizabeth Blank, Amy Byard, David Brooks, Aimee Crabtree, Paul Crabtree, Jayna D'Herete, Kyle Evans, Jennifer Eversole, Emily Fothergill, Lydia Gibbons, Lauren Gibson, Amy Gill, Ryan Griffin, Kathryn Hastings, Christopher Hayes, Darrion House, Alison Hunt, Nick Judy, Katie Kowalski, Dale Litt, Lauren Litts, Laura Logan, Jessica Mealer, Janielle McKee, Kathy Moore, Lindsay Nelson, Brad Piunno, Evelyn Scholl, Lisa Shambaugh, Elizabeth Single, Nici VanArsdel, Sherry Werman and Tonya Wilder.
