Work by Ohio artists will be up for bid at Art for the Environment, a silent auction to benefit the Ohio Environmental Council.

The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 25 at The Lab, 855 Grandview Ave.

Nearly 30 artists working in a variety of media will participate in the auction, including nationally known artists Ann Hamilton and Michael Mercil, said Dena Sico, associate director of development for the environmental council.

"Each artist has donated a piece of art that has a theme connected to the environment," Sico said. "The environment has always been a rich subject for artists."

Mercil's Inventive Man will be installed at the event, she said.

Guests will be able to meet the artists and bid on their work while enjoying cocktails and appetizers from local restaurants and dessert from Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams.

The Derek DiCenzo Duo also will perform.

The Ohio Environmental Council offices are located at 1207 Grandview Ave.

"We are Ohio's leading environmental advocacy organization," Sico said. "We advocate for protecting Ohio's environment, whether it be the air, land or water."

The council uses legislative initiatives, legal action and statewide partnerships to further its cause, she said.

"We also do a lot of community outreach to educate the public about environmental issues," Sico said.

Tickets to Art for the Environment cost $25 per person; sponsorship packages, which include tickets to the event, are available beginning at $250.

Tickets and sponsorships can be purchased at theOEC.org or by calling 614-487-7506.

The council held an art auction several years ago, but this year's event is bigger with more artists participating, Sico said.

"We formed an art committee to help with planning the event," she said.

The plan is to make Art for the Environment a biennial event, Sico said.
