New urgent care facility planned for UA
Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center will open a new after-hours care facility in Upper Arlington this fall.
Although a definitive opening date hasn't been set, officials at OSU's Wexner Medical Center last week said they expect to open an AfterHours Care facility in the Martha Morehouse Pavilion, 2050 Kenny Road.
The new facility will offer urgent care services during times when more traditional doctors' offices typically aren't open, according to Marti Leitch, an OSU Wexner Medical Center spokeswoman.
"This basically is making use of an existing patient-care for use after hours," Leitch said. "This is basically an urgent-care site for after hours and weekends."
The AfterHours Care facility will offer treatment for non-life threatening cuts and burns, minor sprains and strains, colds and flu, as well as stitches, splints and urgent X-rays for patients age 18 and older.
Appointments won't be required, and Leitch said the office will have the ability to bill patients' medical insurance companies.
Those who seek treatment at the AfterHours Care facility don't need to be a current OSU patient, she said. However, if an individual already is an OSU patient, that visit will be documented in the patient's electronic medical record for other OSU physicians to review, Leitch said.
AfterHours Care will operate from 5 to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
"We have X-ray services and imaging services available," Leitch said. "We have radiology services in place there already.
"Another advantage is it's relatively close to our main university hospital location in the event a patient needs to be referred for emergency care at the hospital."
