If you're a visitor to our city webpage, you've likely seen our events calendar. Perhaps you've even used it to check the date of Beggar's Night or for Spring Fling. And perhaps you have a community special event on the horizon that you'd like to see listed on our calendar.
As the city prepares for its first hotel this coming summer and the subsequent launch of a visitor's bureau program, our outreach efforts will be expanding relative to the activities going on in our community, so that visitors to the city can fully experience all that Upper Arlington has to offer.
You can download a fillable PDF Community Calendar form from the Living in UA-Special Events section of our website, uaoh.net. Once you have completed the form (one form per special event please) all you have to do is submit it to the city via the email address provided. And, if you have a logo or good digital photo or two, send them along and we'll be happy to add them to the calendar listing for all the events that are deemed eligible for inclusion.
In addition to inclusion on the website calendar, qualifying events may also be included in our quarterly City Insight newsletter, Parks & Recreation's Activity Guide, posted via the city's social media sites, and various other portals. The city maintains the right to decline submissions, and the posting of an event by the city is not an endorsement of an event. Of note, we will not include routine programming such as organization meeting dates or classes.
We see the calendar becoming a one-stop shop for all things Upper Arlington, whether it's the wonderful special events hosted by the Upper Arlington Civic Association, Community Foundation happenings, or our own Parks & Recreation Department family events -- or perhaps your organization. Send us details of your special event for consideration soon to maximize how we can help.
If you have questions about the Community Calendar, please call my office at 614-583-5040.
2013 State of
the City Monday
Our 2013 State of the City Address is just a few days away.
Please join us Monday, Jan. 28, as we put the Spotlight on UA. The evening begins at 5 p.m., with the ever-popular Community Fair, a chance to meet with community leaders, catch up on city department projects, and learn about the civic groups and nonprofits that enrich our community.
Our formal address begins at 6:30 p.m., with Barrington Elementary School third-fifth graders on hand to showcase their Taiko drumming skills, a short year-in-review community video and presentations by members of City Council and myself.
The evening concludes with our Community Awards announcements, with some deserving individuals slated to be recognized this year.
The year ahead will bring new projects, challenges and opportunities for our community, and what better way to learn about the city's plans than at our annual State of the City Address? I invite you to join us, and to learn more about your local government and the people who work to serve you year in and year out.
For details, visit uaoh.net or call my office at 614-583-5040.
Theodore J. Staton is Upper Arlington's city manager.
