UA: Unlocked vehicles give thieves easy access

Thieves were able to gain access to five vehicles left unlocked last week and got away with cash, computer equipment and medication, among other items.

According to Upper Arlington police, a laptop computer valued at $800, headphones valued at $250 and a wallet valued at $1 were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 2500 block of Nottingham Road between 8 p.m. April 27 and 8 a.m. April 28.

Approximately $2 in loose change and a bottle of detergent were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 2200 block of Swansea Road between 6 p.m. April 27 and 7:50 a.m. April 28.

Eyeglasses valued at $250 were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 2400 block of Woodstock Road between 9 p.m. April 27 and 9 a.m. April 28.

A video-gaming system valued at $400 was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 2100 block of Ridgecliff Road between midnight and 8 a.m. April 28.

Prescription medications and $10 in cash were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 1700 block of Elmwood Avenue between 10 p.m. April 22 and 5 a.m. April 23.

In other police reports:

* A woman in the 4100 block of Oxford Drive called police at 7:12 p.m. April 26 to say she observed a woman park a red car at the intersection of Lear and Oxford drives, then get out and begin dancing in the street. The woman took a black bag out of her trunk and placed it in the mulch area of the intersection, the resident said.

Police responded to the scene and found a bag containing a bowling ball.

* Business papers valued at $20 and $40 cash were reported stolen from a parked vehicle in the 3200 block of Ainwick Road between 11:45 p.m. April 27 and 2:30 p.m. April 28.

Also taken was a portion of the vehicle's center console, which was valued at $55, and a credit card, which was used to make $215.85 in purchases from a nearby gas station.

* A glass pane to a storm door was broken at a home in the 2400 block of Cambridge Boulevard between 4:30 and 6:27 p.m. April 27. Nothing was reported missing from the home.

* An iPod radio tuner valued at $50 was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 3500 block of Prestwick Court between noon April 19 and 1:08 p.m. April 24. Entry was gained by prying open the sunroof, which caused $300 in damage, police reports said.

* A window was broken on a vehicle parked in the 2100 block of Haverford Road. Nothing was reported stolen, but damage was listed at $300.
