Short ribs win menu at ’13 beaujolais soiree

Upper Arlington High School graduate Stephen Halsey won the apprentice chef competition to create the menu for tonight’s annual Beaujolais Nouveau Soiree at central Ohio’s La Chatelaine restaurants.

Halsey’s dish of Ohio braised short ribs with parsnip puree and green beans will be featured at the beaujolais party at the La Chatelaine French Bakery & Bistro locations in Dublin, Upper Arlington and Worthington.

The annual dinner party is held worldwide to celebrate the first release of new wine from the previous year in France, held on the third Thursday of each November. The Beaujolais Nouveau Festival is a national holiday in France, the native country of La Chatelaine proprietors Stan and Gigi Wielezynski.

Also competing in last month’s apprentice chef competition to pick the dinner for the beaujolais party were Grandview Heights High School graduate Dylan Holtrey and German Village resident Chris Schreiber.

All three are culinary arts program students at Columbus State Community College. All three also work in kitchens at local restaurants: Halsey at the UA La Chatelaine, Holtrey at the North Pointe Conference Center and Schreiber at G. Michael’s Bistro.

The dinner, with a bottle of the 2013 Beaujolais Nouveau, will be offered this evening, Nov. 21, at the La Chatelaine restaurants in UA, 1550 W. Lane Ave., Dublin, 65 W. Bridge St.,  and Worthington, 627 High St.
