Resident startled when unknown man walks in

An Upper Arlington man reported he was in his home in the 1800 block of Lane Road at around 12:50 p.m. Nov. 21 when an unknown man walked in unannounced.

According to police reports, the man, described as being white, in his mid-20s with a "heavier build" and "scruffy, short" facial hair, entered through the front door of the home, which was unlocked at the time.

The resident, 19, reported the man became startled when he saw someone was home, and quickly ran out front door.

Detectives arrived on the scene to process undisclosed evidence allegedly left behind by the suspect. No arrests were made.

In other recent Upper Arlington Police Division reports:

• A fountain pen with rollerball and pencil valued at $1,500, a briefcase valued at $700 and computer equipment valued at $1 were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the lower lot of the Scioto Country Club, 2196 Riverside Drive, between 3:29 p.m. and 3:33 p.m. Nov. 22. Entry was gained by breaking out a window, which caused $500 in damage.

• Two gold rings, together valued at $800, plus $8 cash were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 1900 block of Upper Chelsea Road between 7:30 p.m. Nov. 22 and noon Nov. 24.

• A "no parking" sign was used to break windows in two parked vehicles last week.

According to Upper Arlington police reports, the rear window of a vehicle parked in the 1600 block of Essex Road was broken out by someone using a "no parking" sign between 4 p.m. Nov. 22 and 10 a.m. Nov. 23. Damage was listed at $500.

The rear window of another vehicle was broken out by someone using a "no parking" sign while the vehicle was parked in the 1500 block of Essex Road between 10 p.m. Nov. 22 and 7:30 a.m. Nov. 23. The sign used to break the window also punctured a headrest, police reports said. Total damage was listed at $600.

• The driver's-side window and the driver's-side mirror of a vehicle were broken out while the vehicle was parked near the corner of Sciotangy and Ridgecliff roads between 4 a.m. Nov. 22 and 6:45 a.m. Nov. 23. Damage was listed at $550.

• A wallet, credit card and personal papers were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 4000 block of Reed Road between noon and 1 p.m. Nov. 24. Entry was gained by breaking out a window.

• An employee of a vision center in the 2200 block of North Bank Drive reported finding several used condoms in a break area outside the building at 7 a.m. Nov. 21. Doctors at the office told police they're concerned the area is being used for prostitution activities.

• An Upper Arlington man was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, underage possession of alcohol and open container after he allegedly was found drinking alcohol in a courtyard at the Upper Arlington Senior Center, 1945 Ridgecliff Road.

In addition to alcohol, police found the man in possession of what appeared to be a marijuana pipe and grinder. An Upper Arlington woman also was charged with underage possession of alcohol and open container.

• Police responded to an alarm at a business in the 1500 block of Lane Avenue at 11:55 p.m. Nov. 26 and found the rear door had been broken out. Officers later determined $1,600 worth of office equipment, $400 in cash and $300 worth of undisclosed property had been stolen from the business.

• Two space heaters were reported stolen from a business worksite in the 2100 block of Riverside Drive between 5 p.m. Nov. 27 and 7:30 a.m. Nov. 29.

• A purse, sunglasses and $20 in cash were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 1700 block of Berkshire Road between 8:20 a.m. and 10:10 a.m. Nov. 28. Entry was gained by breaking out the front passenger-side window, causing $500 in damage, police reports said.

• A gold and diamond ring valued at $450, a gold ring valued at $350 and $8 in cash were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 1900 block of Upper Chelsea Road between 7:30 p.m. Nov. 23 and noon Nov.24.

• A miter box valued at $500 and a compressor valued at $450 were reported stolen from a vehicle while it was parked in the 2000 block of Henderson Road between noon Nov. 22 and 11:30 a.m. Nov. 25. Entry was gained by breaking out a passenger-side window, causing $650 in damage.

• A wallet was reported stolen from a vehicle while it was parked in the 4000 block of Reed Road between noon and 1 p.m. Nov. 24. Entry was gained by breaking out a passenger-side window.

• Clothing valued at $60, foreign currency valued at $50 and $2 in cash were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 1800 block of Westwood Avenue between 8:30 p.m. Nov. 26 and 10:30 a.m. Nov. 27.

• Police responded to a report that two people were smoking marijuana inside a vehicle parked in the 1700 block of Harwitch Road at 5:32 p.m. Nov. 30.

According to police reports, an Upper Arlington woman was in possession of marijuana, multiple glass pipes, a grinder, a scale, a cigar wrap and four bags of marijuana. She was charged with possession of marijuana and five counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

• A vehicle was egged and sprayed with paint while it was parked in the 2000 block of Ridgecliff Road between 11 p.m. Nov. 28 and 4 p.m. Nov. 29. Damage was listed at $300.

• An Upper Arlington man reported eggs were thrown on his vehicle while it was parked in the 2400 block of Woodstock Road between 9 p.m. Nov. 26 and 10:20 a.m. Nov. 27.

• A cellphone valued at $600 and a laptop computer valued at $400 were reported stolen from a boys locker room at Upper Arlington High School, 1650 Ridgeview Road, between 5 p.m. and 7:54 p.m. Nov. 29.

• A 20-foot section of copper pipe valued at $100 was reported stolen from a home in the 4000 block of Fairfax Drive between 9 p.m. Nov.28 and 9:30 a.m. Nov. 29. Also, a basement window and frames to the main door and a side door were damaged, police reports said.
