A volunteer-led effort to support a bedside arts program for OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital cancer patients will continue this month when Kitchen Kapers hosts its annual home tour.

Since 1987, Kitchen Kapers has raised more than $600,000 to support cancer services at Riverside through an annual tour of newly remodeled, gourmet kitchens.

The 55-member group, based in Upper Arlington, will continue its crusade Sunday, Sept. 13, with the 2015 tour of seven homes featuring a variety of recently upgraded indoor and outdoor kitchens.

"It's really an activity that's a fun day for everybody," said Kara Rappolt, Kitchen Kapers president. "Not only are we raising money for people at The Bing (OhioHealth's Bing Cancer Center at Riverside) and Riverside Hospital, but it's a really fun day for people to see what can be done with all types of homes and kitchens."

This year, the tour will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $25 through Sept. 12 at Upper Arlington-area businesses Chocolate Cafe, DeSantis Florists, Huffman's Market and Tin Bakery.

Tickets will cost $30 on the day of the tour and can be purchased at each of the seven homes to be featured.

Proceeds from Kitchen Kapers once again will benefit Riverside's Artist in Residence program, which brings music and other arts to the bedsides of cancer patients to enhance healing and improve quality of life.

The program has been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts as a "Best Practice."

"For many facing the challenges of living with cancer, the creative outlets such as music, poetry and painting provide a welcome respite from their day-to-day routines," said Elizabeth Stelzer, a Kitchen Kapers member.

While the tour supports another tool to fight cancer, it's also meant to showcase the work of local builders and contractors, as well as an opportunity for homeowners to pick up ideas for remodeling their kitchens.

This year, the tour will travel to the following Upper Arlington homes:

* 2701 Berwyn Road

* 2690 Edington Road

* 2283 Tremont Road

* 2124 Tremont Road

* 2035 Tremont Road

* 2457 Kensington Road

* 2454 Kensington Road

Rappolt said Kitchen Kapers members tap their network of friends, builders and contractors to select a variety of homes that showcase a range of remodeling options.

"We try to have a really diverse style in the homes we choose," she said. "We have two homes with really beautiful outdoor, poolside kitchens, we have a mid-century ranch-style kitchen and we have a home that's really more of a facelift kitchen that's more affordable.

"We try to find really diverse homes that meet everyone's tastes."

As guests make stops on the tour, they can indulge in desserts from Chocolate Cafe and Tin Bakery, as well as flowers from DeSantis Florists.

Rappolt noted Huffman's Market is once again providing financial support to this year's tour, and said the event will feature prizes from Erie Insurance and OhioHealth.

Additionally, Upper Arlington jeweler Jeff Johnson & Co. will give away a necklace and earring set, and Artists in Residence such as John Morgan will perform throughout the day.

"The OhioHealth Foundation really views this as their big event each year," Rappolt said. "We've always had more than 700 tour guests each year.

"We'd love to have over 700 people again, and our goal this year is to raise $100,000."
