Dublin Coffman High School senior quarterback Cole Stoudt is ready for the playoffs. For the second consecutive week, Stoudt threw for more than 300 yards, this time en route to a 27-9 victory at home against Upper Arlington on Friday in the regular-season finale.
Trailing by nine points in the second quarter, Stoudt led the Shamrocks to 27 unanswered points. He was 21-for-32 passing for 320 yards and two touchdowns and one interception.
In the second half, he had only one incomplete pass and both touchdowns.
"Sometimes you just get in a rhythm and everything just flows together," Stoudt said. "We just put it all on the line there in the second half, because in the first half, we just couldn't get things going."
Things didn't start off so well for the Shamrocks, who improved to 8-2 overall and finished second in the OCC-Central Division at 6-1. The offense stumbled through the first quarter and trailed 9-0 after a 40-yard field and an 8-yard touchdown pass from Jake Johns to Frank Epitropoulos.
The touchdown followed one of Coffman's two first-half turnovers.
"We had a propensity to do that and it was really costing us momentum and points," Coffman coach Mark Crabtree said of the turnovers. "That's exactly what happened in the first half."
But then the Shamrocks came roaring back.
Behind a no-huddle offense, Coffman running back Ezra Kim closed the gap with a 1-yard touchdown run. The Shamrocks went into halftime down 9-6 after a failed extra-point attempt.
The momentum carried over into the second half, where Coffman scored on its first three possessions. Stoudt was 11 of 12 in the second half for 168 yards.
"We missed our opportunities in the first half," said UA coach Mike Golden, whose team finished 6-4 and 4-3. "We missed a fake punt that was going to be an easy conversion, and we dropped a pass in the end zone. Everything had to go well for us."
