Five UA football players make college decisions

Five Upper Arlington High School football players made their college decisions official on Feb. 1.

Receiver/defensive back/punter Frank Epitropoulos signed with Ohio State University, offensive lineman James Henry signed with the University of Toledo, defensive lineman Grayson Fisher will play at Princeton University, receiver/defensive back Garrett Powers has signed with Georgetown University and quarterback David Smith will play at Stetson University.

Epitropoulos caught 25 passes for 459 yards and seven touchdowns last year despite missing more than four games because of a hand injury. He also had 23 tackles as a defensive back and averaged 39.2 yards per kick as a punter.

Henry, who played at Madison Plains before transferring to UA as a senior, was special mention all-district in Division I last year. The 6-foot-7, 265-pound Henry helped pave the way for UA to rush for 2,473 yards and 38 touchdowns.

Fisher had 43 tackles, including 30 solo and a sack, last year. A special mention all-district honoree, Fisher also considered Cornell and Dartmouth.

Powers caught 26 passes for 381 yards and three touchdowns last season and also had 52 tackles, 27 solo, on defense to earn first team all-league and -district honors.

Smith was 101-for-175 passing for 1,315 yards, 13 touchdowns and four interceptions last season. In 2010 as the Bears’ backup quarterback, he was 15 of 21 for 154 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

Stetson, an Atlantic Sun Conference school located in DeLand, Fla., will play its first football game in the fall of 2013.

The Golden Bears finished 9-3 overall and 6-1 in the OCC-Central Division last year, losing 15-6 to Hilliard Davidson in a Division I, Region 3 semifinal.
