Upper Arlington High School senior Stu Little and Worthington Christian junior Joel Montgomery will enter the state tournament as No. 1 seeds after winning district singles championships May 25.
In the Division I tournament at Hilliard Davidson, Little beat Reynoldsburg sophomore Cameron Raglin 6-1, 6-0 in a semifinal and Gahanna senior Canyon Teague 7-5, 6-3 to capture the title.
Montgomery defeated Watterson senior Ryan Bibo 6-4, 6-3 to win the Division II title at Columbus Academy.
“I didn’t make a bunch of errors, was patient and varied my serves,” Little said.
Teague beat New Albany senior Rathnakishore Giri 6-2, 6-3 in a semifinal, and Raglin defeated Giri 6-2, 6-2 in the third-place match.
At district, the top four finishers in singles and doubles in Division I and the top two in singles and doubles in Division II advanced to the state tournament May 31 and June 1 at Ohio State.
In Division I doubles, Upper Arlington senior Nate Wallace and junior Jeffrey Melvin defeated Dublin Jerome senior Kent Seitz and freshman Adam Seitz 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in a semifinal and Dublin Coffman seniors Jack Buchan and Leon Cai 6-4, 6-2 to win the title.
Buchan and Cai defeated New Albany sophomores Alex Kobelt and Nick Blair 6-4, 6-4 to reach the district final, and Kobelt and Blair defeated the Seitzes 6-4, 6-3 to take third.
In Division II doubles, Academy’s team of senior Abram Schottenstein and freshman Jacob Wareti defeated junior teammates Evan Alexander and Ryan Jung 6-0, 6-2 to win the championship.
