The Wellington School boys tennis team lost to Columbus Academy 5-0 in an Ohio Tennis Coaches Association Division II district final May 21.
The Jaguars, who finished 12-1, had four players compete in the Division II district tournament held May 23 and 24 at Columbus Academy, but none of them qualified for state.
Senior Lincoln Ficek and junior Nick Sweeney fell one win shy of advancing in doubles, as they defeated Granville's John Purnode and Brian Ginise 6-3, 6-3 in the first round before losing to Academy's Evan Alexander and Dean Fourizian 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in a semifinal.
Sophomore Temidayo Dairo and junior Evan Rodgers both went 0-1 in singles.
Dairo lost to Academy's Austin Lawrence 6-3, 6-2 in the first round and Rodgers lost to Academy's Jacob Wareti 6-0, 6-1 in the opening round.
The top two finishers in singles and doubles advanced to state Friday, May 30, and Saturday, May 31, at Ohio State.
Boys lacrosse team ousted from tourney
The boys lacrosse team lost at third-seeded Delaware 18-0 in a play-in game in the Division II Central/Northwest Region tournament May 21.
James Rohrbach had 10 saves and Nate Beam had two saves for the 15th-seeded Jaguars, who finished 1-18.
Season ends for girls track team
The girls track and field team ended its season in the Division III district meet held May 20, 21 and 24 at Whitehall.
Sophomore Keilah Causey placed ninth in both the long jump (14 feet, 9 inches) and 400 meters (1 minute, 4.42 seconds) and finished 12th in the 200 meters (27.99 seconds).
The top four finishers in each district event advanced to regional, which began May 28 and concludes Friday, May 30, at Fairfield Union.
Wellington did not score in the 33-team district as Columbus School for Girls won (101 points).
