The Upper Arlington High School baseball team is in search of a new coach.
Matt Middleton, who coached the Golden Bears from 2010-14 and led them to Division I district semifinals each of the past three years, recently was hired as an assistant principal at Hilliard Darby.
“I was all set to come back and coach, but I have three (sons) and we’re getting to the point where they all need to be different places at the same time,” said Middleton, who resigned June 30. “This job sprang up kind of quick. I got my Master’s Degree (in administration) last year and this can be an excellent opportunity for me.”
Middleton was 79-64 overall at UA, winning a district championship his first season.
UA was 19-9 overall and 10-4 in the OCC-Central Division this past season, losing to St. Charles 10-6 in a district semifinal.
Middleton previously was a physical education teacher at Barrington Elementary School. His first day at Darby is July 23.
Applicants to succeed Middleton should contact boys athletics director Michael Schaefer at (614) 487-5212 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
