The Native American Indian Center of Central Ohio will hold its 2008 Selma Walker Memorial Powwow through Monday, May 26, at Franklin County Fairgrounds, 4100 Columbia St. in Hilliard.

The Native American Indian Center of Central Ohio will hold its 2008 Selma Walker Memorial Powwow through Monday, May 26, at Franklin County Fairgrounds, 4100 Columbia St. in Hilliard.

Gates will open at 10 a.m. The event will feature Native American dancing, art, food and music.

Native American singer, hoop dancer and entertainer Jackie Bird will be the featured performer.

Dancing will begin with a Grand Entry of all dancers at 1 and 7 p.m. Sunday and 1 p.m. Monday. A dance contest will be held at 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

A closing ceremony will be held Monday at 5 p.m.

Those attending are encouraged to bring their own seating.

Admission is $7 for adults, $3 for seniors and children, with those under age 3 admitted free.

The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance will host "Facing Us: A Presentation and Dialog about Truth, Strength and Hope" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at Meadow Park Church of God, 2425 Bethel Road.

The face-to-face "story hour" will feature a speaker who has a mental illness discussing how he is successful in life. The winning video clips from the DBSA's 2007 "Facing Us" video contest will also be shown.

Educational handouts and a question and answer session with chapter representatives will round out the event.
