The Prairie Township Fire Department, assisted by the Franklin County Water Department, will flush fire hydrants in the eastern portion of the township starting on May 4.

The process and should be complete no later than May 29.

The area to be flushed will be bounded by I-270 on the east, Sullivant Avenue on the south, Rome-Hilliard Road on the west and Trabue Road on the north. The village park area located off Hall Road near Alton Road will also be flushed at this time.

Residents may experience rusty water during the time of flushing, but it is not a health hazard. It may discolor clothing being laundered at the time, however. Residents should run their water for several minutes before starting the wash to assure no rust is present.

Should rusty water continue to be a problem after the flushing, residents can call the Franklin County Water Department at 462-3940 during business hours.

The annual spring clean-up in Prairie Township is slated to take place April 25 to May 2. Residents are encouraged to get rid of large quantities of trash and tires by making use of dumpsters provided by the township.

This year dumpsters will not be located at township hall but at both fire station locations. Prairie Township fire station 241, at 123 Inah Ave., will be accepting both tires and trash. The dumpster at fire station 143, at 451 Hubbard Road, will accept trash only.

Members of the Franklin Heights High School Marching Band recently returned from their trip to Disney World in Florida.

While there, the band members participated in Disney's "You're Instrumental" program, in which they learned how music is set to animated features in a recording studio. They also toured Disney's Epcot Center, Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom.

The highlight of the trip was the opportunity to march in the parade at Disney's Magic Kingdom, according to an announcement.
