Tina Taylor of Galloway recently competed in the 2009 Cincinnati Dancesport Competition, along with several other students from the Hilliard-based studio Invitation to Dance.

Tina Taylor of Galloway recently competed in the 2009 Cincinnati Dancesport Competition, along with several other students from the Hilliard-based studio Invitation to Dance.

Taylor placed first in newcomers waltz and tango, and third in intermediate bronze waltz and tango.


Army Pvt. Donald J. Hackney, the son of Donald Hackney of Galloway, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, as well as physical fitness.

Hackney also received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

Hackney is a 1997 graduate of Westland High School.
