The 61st annual Prairie Township Fish Fry promises great fish and a weekend of fun for all ages.

The event is set to take place from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, June 25 and 26, at the Prairie Township Fire Station, 106 Norton Road.

Dispatcher Nancy Hunter, coordinator of the event, said firefighters fry up about 2,500 pounds of fresh ocean perch each year. But it's more than just a great place to get a good sandwich.

"The event has become a venue for friends and family to gather and catch up on hectic lives," Hunter said.

The popular car show will return on Friday night, with registration beginning at 4 p.m. for a fee of $8. Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 participants.

"All makes and models of vehicles are welcome," Hunter said. "This year we are giving away 50 trophies."

Rain date for the car show will be Saturday, she said.

Also returning to the fish fry will be an area for children featuring amusement rides and pony rides.

Live bands will entertain both evenings, beginning at 6 p.m.

On Friday night the band All Jacked Up will take center stage; Saturday will feature the band Agent 99. Both bands play a wide variety of music, Hunter said.

"We've got a brand new stage just for the bands this year," she said. "It will be located closer to Norton Road and provide more room."

Each evening will also feature a raffle at about 10 p.m. when the bands wrap up their performances, Hunter said. Prizes for the raffle were donated by local businesses.

For those who are not fans of fish, firefighters will also be grilling hotdogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers and other picnic fair, Hunter said.

"This has become a time when residents and former residents get together," she said. "It's become so popular. It's a homecoming."
