Haley Young, a second-grade student at Alton Hall Elementary School, received the Award of Excellence from the National PTA Reflections Art Program in the elementary school age group.
Reflections is a yearly art contest held by the PTA. Each school is invited to submit student art to be considered and judged, first at a district level. Winning pieces for each district then move on to a state contest. One piece in each of three age groups -- primary, intermediate and high school -- is picked by the state. These three winning pieces then advance to the national contest.
Young won first place in the primary age group for her cat collage, "The Cat Who Smelled Flowers." She will receive a bronze medal and a cash prize of $200 from the National PTA. Her collage will travel the country for the next year.
