Westerville's Finance Department has received the highest recognition possible from the Ohio Auditor's office.

The department earned a "Making Your Tax Dollars Count" award July 23 from State Auditor Mary Taylor.

To receive the award, an entity must have a clean audit with no findings for recovery, no material citations or weaknesses and no questioned costs, according to Scott McAfee, Westerville's community affairs coordinator.

"This award is only given to a select group of communities," Taylor said.

"Fewer than 5 percent of audited agencies statewide can achieve this award, and I commend finance director Jack Winkel, his staff, and the city of Westerville for their commitment to financial accountability.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to recognize Westerville for receiving the prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association."

Westerville also received the "Making Your Tax Dollars Count" award in 2006 and the GFOA certificate of achievement every year since 1983, according to McAfee.
