Dr. Joel M. Weaver II, D.D.S., Ph.D., of Westerville, is this year's recipient of the Ohio Dental Association's Achievement Award.

Dr. Joel M. Weaver II, D.D.S., Ph.D., of Westerville, is this year's recipient of the Ohio Dental Association's Achievement Award.

The ODA Achievement Award honors outstanding contributions to the dental profession and oral health through teaching, research and service.

Weaver graduated from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1972. He earned his doctorate in pharmacology from OSU in 1976.

While at OSU, Weaver served as head of pharmacology and anesthesiology in the College of Dentistry and as a dentist anesthesiologist in the Department of Anesthesiology at the OSU College of Medicine.

During his career, he received four teaching awards and numerous professional awards.

In addition to teaching, Weaver is a practitioner and was in part-time practice of dental anesthesiology at the College of Dentistry Faculty Practice at OSU while teaching.

Weaver is a member and has served as president of several scientific and professional organizations. He is the editor of the Journal of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, and is a reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed journals.

Weaver received the ODA Achievement Award Sept. 19 during the 2008 Callahan Celebration of Excellence dinner held in conjunction with the 142nd ODA annual session in Columbus.
