Westerville resident Dean Racine in November was ordained a Permanent Deacon for the Catholic Diocese of Columbus.

The Most Reverend James A. Griffin, Bishop Emeritus of Columbus, conducted the ceremony.

The Most Reverend Frederick F. Campbell, Bishop of Columbus, assigned Racine to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Columbus for diaconal duties.

Racine is vice president for sales, services, property/casualty insurance operations for Nationwide Insurance in Columbus.

The Rev. Lawrence Boadt will speak at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Westerville from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18.

Boadt will discuss "10 Favorite Gifts of Spirituality from St. Paul that All Christians Share" as the community celebrates the Week of Christian Unity.

Boadt is president and publisher of the Paulist Press. In recognition of the Pauline Year, he wrote "The Life of St. Paul." The book may be purchased at the event.

The Westerville Area Chamber Foundation has awarded a full scholarship to Leslie Hoheisel of Westerville Area Resource Ministry to attend the Leadership Westerville program.

Leadership Westerville is a nine-month community development program dedicated to bringing Westerville citizens together to advance the city. The program requires participants to attend one full-day session the first Wednesday of each month for nine months, ending with a community service day on the first Saturday of May.

Hoheisel is the coordinator of donor services for W.A.R.M. and in charge of fundraising, special events and community relations.
