Otterbein College will take a page from the big band era for its annual Valentine's Day event.

The college's jazz ensembles will present Otterbein's seventh annual Valentine's gala, Music and Romance, at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Wedgewood Golf and Country Club, 9600 Wedgewood Blvd., Powell.

The event offers jazz, swing dancing and desserts in a candlelit setting, according to Otterbein spokeswoman Jennifer Hill.

The Opus One vocal jazz ensemble and several Otterbein instrumental jazz ensembles will perform music from the big band era, and vocal and instrumental soloists from the department of music will also perform.

Hill said the evening is a fundraising event sponsored by the Otterbein chapter of the international honorary music fraternity, Delta Omicron. Money from ticket sales will be used to help students planning to tour abroad with college ensembles. In the last six years, the gala has raised more than $10,000 altogether.

The evening will also include a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and prize drawings. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., with performances beginning at 8. Tickets are $25 for adults, and $10 for students. Tables of 10 cost $200.

More information is available from the Otterbein music department at (614) 823-1508.
