Leadership Westerville will host its eighth annual Service Day this weekend.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, volunteers from the community, area businesses and other organizations will offer assistance to those Westerville residents who need help with such things as household chores, touch-up painting, indoor and outdoor clean-up, litter control, planting flowers and minor home repairs.

While there is no cost for those receiving assistance, Service Day organizers have asked that if possible, those seeking assistance have rakes, cleaning supplies, etc. for the volunteers to use.

Senior citizens and others in need who live within the Westerville City Schools district can submit project requests by calling Kristi Robbins at (614)901-3101.

Volunteers will gather Saturday at Westerville South High School, 303 S. Otterbein Ave., to coordinate before beginning the day's work.

Service Day has averaged about 150-200 volunteers and 50-70 project requests completed annually, according to Robbins.

Leadership Westerville was founded in 2001. The nonprofit organization is a partnership among the city of Westerville, the Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce, Westerville City Schools, Westerville Public Library and Otterbein College. It was created to develop a network of committed citizens who are dedicated to improving their leadership skills to better serve the community, according to the group's mission statement.
