The first practice specializing in health care for women opened its doors at the Westerville Medical Campus last week.

Specialists in Obstetrics & Gynecology of Columbus moved its operations from Worthington to the campus on May 18. The practice is located in a new 6,000-square-foot office that includes nine examination rooms, three procedure rooms and a diagnostic ultrasonography and densitometry suite, according to spokeswoman Becky McIlwain.

Specialists in Obstetrics & Gynecology of Columbus is a division of MaternOhio Clinical Associates Inc.

The center will offer a range of gynecological and obstetric services, according to McIlwain, including endometriosis treatment, infertility services, minimally invasive surgery, treatment for gynecological disorders, family planning and bone density scanning.

Dr. Stuart Jones said the practice decided to move to Westerville and the medical campus because of the new office facilities and the center's focus on family and women's health care. The Westerville Medical Campus includes "KidCare" by Bright Horizons, a licensed child care facility in the center that provides free access to day care service for up to two hours.

"The new Westerville location will expand our ability to offer top-quality service to an area that is young, dynamic and growing," Jones said.

Other physicians practicing at the center include Thomas Harmon, M.D., Tracy Cook, M.D., Carl Krantz, M.D. and Marcie Maffett, M.D.

OhioHealth's $35-million medical center opened its doors to patients at 300 Polaris Parkway on Jan. 5. Touted by staff as a "hospital without beds," the campus focuses more on outpatient care than inpatient care, according to director of operations Jean Halpin.

Halpin said when the center was first being conceptualized, OhioHealth's advisory group of about 20 physicians made it clear what was needed in the Westerville area: more specialists. Toward that goal, about 98 percent of the three-story, 173,000-square-foot center is leased to private health care agencies that offer services ranging from general physician offices to an on-site surgery center.

Since the Westerville Medical Campus opened, practices that have set up shop in the campus include Central Ohio Vascular Services, Columbus Radiology Corp., Grant Wound Care, McConnell Health Services, Mid Ohio Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Center, OhioHealth Sleep Services and Workhealth.

Scheduled to relocate to the center this spring are Central Ohio Skin & Cancer, Grant Family Medicine and MAX Sports.

In addition to the new Westerville office, Specialists in Obstetrics & Gynecology of Columbus will continue to operate its Dublin office at 7450 Hospital Drive.
