All of the top students in the class of 2009 at Westerville South High School earned grade point averages higher than 4.0.

All of the top students in the class of 2009 at Westerville South High School earned grade point averages higher than 4.0.

The top 10 --Westerville South's Academic Varsity -- were honored by the Westerville Kiwanis Club in a banquet April 29, receiving a certificate and a share of Bob Evans stock from the Club.

The school anticipates 315 graduates in the class of 2009.

Students in the WSHS Academic Varsity are:

Paul Harris is graduating with a 4.51 GPA. He plans to major in mechanical engineering at the University of Cincinnati. While at WSHS, Harris was a member of the marching band, National Honor Society, tennis team, and performed in the school's theatrical productions. He has been awarded a Cincinnatus Scholarship.

Patrick Houston is graduating with a 4.498 GPA. He plans to attend The Ohio State University. While at WSHS, Houston led a Bible study and played both club and varsity soccer. He has been awarded a Maximus Scholarship at OSU.

Anjuli Johnson is graduating with a 4.4 GPA. She plans to attend American University and major in graphic design. While at WSHS, Johnson was a member of the school's wind ensemble, Wings, Key Club and National Honor Society. Johnson has been awarded a Dean's Scholarship at AU.

Timothy Kincer is graduating with a 4.45 GPA. He plans to major in chemistry and piano performance at Otterbein College. While at WSHS, Kincer was a member of National Honor Society and the theater department. He has been awarded a President's Scholarship and a Dean's Award at Otterbein.

Sarah Middleton is graduating with a 4.7 GPA. She plans to attend OSU and major in zoology. While at WSHS, Middleton was a member of Wings, volunteered for International Friendships Inc., was an equestrian, and hosted foreign students. She has received full tuition to OSU and was awarded a $7,000 scholarship from American Electric Power.

Kevin Sahlin is graduating with a 4.42 GPA. In the fall, he will attend OSU, planning to major in engineering. While at WSHS, Sahlin was a member of In The Know, Key Club, Boy Scouts, NHS and the swim team. He has been awarded a Maximus Scholarship and a Kiwanis Scholarship.

Timothy Shamblin is graduating with a 4.49 GPA. He plans to major in architecture at the University of Cincinnati. While at WSHS, Shamblin volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and was a member of National Honor Society. He has been awarded a Cincinnatus Century Scholarship.

Kelly Shymkiw is graduating with a 4.494 GPA. She plans to attend Clemson University and major in psychology pre-med. While at WSHS, Shymkiw was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, student council, the Principal's Student Advisory Committee, NHS and Key Club.

Andrew Sweet is graduating with a 4.59 GPA. He plans to major in linguistics at OSU. While at WSHS, Sweet was a member of the school's orchestra, swim team and NHS. He has been awarded a full-tuition Distinguished National Merit Scholarship and the Hendrix Sholarship.

Heidi Waibel plans to attend the University of Cincinnati, majoring in mechanical engineering. While at WSHS, Waibel was a member of marching band, NHS and the Columbus Youth Symphonic Band. She has been awarded a Cincinnatus Scholarship and a Freshman in Engineering Scholarship.
