Christa Dickey will start as Westerville's new community affairs administrator on Monday, June 1.

Dickey comes to the city from Indianapolis, where she has worked as director of communications for the American College of Sports Medicine since 2001.

"We are excited to have someone of Christa's caliber and strong communications and public relations experience to serve as our next community affairs professional," city manager David Collinsworth said.

As public affairs administrator, Dickey will chair the city's special events committee, promote Westerville's municipal events, coordinate the city's Web site and communicate with the media and the residents of Westerville.

"I am excited about becoming a part of the community of Westerville," Dickey said. "Throughout my career in public relations, I've worked on many national and regional programs, but my long-term focus has been to get entrenched at the community level.

"I'm honored to have this opportunity to work with the city and in this community, and having extended family nearby makes it already feel like home."

Dickey fills the position vacated by former community affairs administrator Scott McAfee, who left in January to accept the newly created position of public information officer of New Albany. More than 200 people applied for the position, according to director of administrative services Adam Maxwell.
