Virtual Community School of Ohio, an online school, recently honored the class of 2009 at a graduation ceremony held at the Bridgewater Banquet and Conference Center in Powell.

Members of the graduating class from Westerville included Illeia Davila and Amanda Winn.

Kasie Kerr, a student at Westerville South High School, recently received the Best in Show award at the Art Institute of Indianapolis Summer Studio.

Kerr won in the category of fashion design and received a $1,000 scholarship toward tuition at the institute.

Summer Studio is a five-day workshop that offers high school students the opportunity to explore their creativity in photography, graphic design, media arts, animation, culinary arts and fashion.

At the end of the week, students present a project developed during Summer Studio in a portfolio show. Professionals judge submissions, selecting a Best in Show submission for each category.

All Summer Studio participants, including Best in Show winners, receive a $500 tuition grant and a waived application fee if they choose to apply to the institute.

The National Merit Scholarship Corp. has announced an additional 2,000 winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by colleges and universities.

Westerville residents receiving scholarships are Lauren Falkenberg, The Ohio State University; and Garrett May, Northwestern University.

Officials of each sponsor college selected their winners from finalists in the National Merit Scholarship program who will attend their institutions.

College-sponsored awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
