The Westerville Division of Fire will mark National Fire Prevention Week with an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 4.

All three fire houses, located at 400 W. Main St., 727 E. Schrock Road and 355 N. Spring St., will be open for tours during those hours.

The main fire station, 400 W. Main St., will be the site of a variety of demonstrations and activities during the open house, including a demonstration of the Jaws of Life and a fire safety puppet show by the Safety Bunch.

Children will have the opportunity to get an up-close look at the city's fire trucks and try fighting a fake fire in the "Little Squirt's House." There will be a special appearance by Ronald McDonald.

Also during the open house at the main fire station, various safety organizations will be on hand to answer questions.

Each year, National Fire Prevention Week marks the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. This year's theme is "Stay Fire Smart! Don't Get Burned."
