Westerville City Council is scheduled to hold a Jan. 4 public hearing on a proposed expansion of OhioHealth's Westerville medical campus, at Polaris Parkway and Africa Road.

The public hearing will be followed by the third reading and a council vote on the expansion, which includes plans for a two-story, 48,000-square-foot building to house a full-service emergency department and medical offices.

During their Dec. 7 meeting, council members expressed concerns about the site's traffic access, which would be primarily from Africa Road, and about how the expansion would affect the neighborhood that borders the site to the north.

Dozens of residents in the neighborhood attended that council meeting, with one asking council to carefully consider their concerns in voting on the proposed expansion.

Members of the Westerville Planning Commission voted to approve the $20-million expansion in November, but members also voted to deem the expansion a major change to the company's site plan, meaning the plan would have to go before city council for a final vote.

The Jan. 4 meeting will be at 7 p.m. in council chambers, 21 S. State St.
