Planning has started for the Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce's 2011 Music and Arts Festival, and the chamber is looking for artists to fill Heritage Park and Everal Barn.

This 38th annual festival will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 9 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 10. The festival generally brings about 150 artists to show and sell their work in Westerville, the chamber said.

Each year, the festival, which features artist exhibits, live entertainment and concessions, attracts about 20,000 visitors.

Artists are needed for the Heritage section, which features artists dressed in period costume who demonstrate their crafts, and for the Westerville walkway, which features local artists.

The chamber also is seeking entrants in the fine arts category, which includes acrylics, graphics, mixed media, oil paintings, pastels, watercolors and photography, as well as in the fine crafts category, which includes baskets, ceramics, dolls, fiber, glass, metal, jewelry, leather, sculpture and wood.

The festival only accepts work by the artists themselves and does not permit those selling imports, home-style crafts, manufactured beads, kits or craft supplies.

To be considered for the festival, artists must complete an application and submit five digital images four of their works and one of their booth. There is also a nonrefundable $20 jury fee.

The applications and images are reviewed by the chamber's jury committee.

Applications are available at www.westervillechamber.com/festival and must be sent to the chamber by March 18.

The festival also includes a competition for youth artists, ages 3 to 18. There is a $5 entry fee for each piece of work, with a limit of five works per artist.

The categories for the youth art show include oil painting, acrylic painting, watercolor, charcoal, tempera painting, pastels, black-and-white pencil drawing, color pencil drawing, pen and ink, ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, weaving, calligraphy, black-and-white photography and color photography.

Youth artists have until June 27 to submit applications, which also are available on the chamber's website.

The chamber's website also includes applications for civic groups interested in setting up informational booths at the festival.
