The Westerville Kiwanis Club honored the top 10 graduating seniors from Westerville Central High School April 11.

The Westerville Kiwanis Club honored the top 10 graduating seniors from Westerville Central High School April 11.

The students were recognized for their achievements with Kiwanis' Academic Varsity Awards. It was the 50th year for the awards.

Central honorees were Haley Conkel, Daniel Fay, Simona Firestone, Maxwell Hart, Ashley Nowaczyk, Sean O'Donnell, Cara Parrish, Taylor Reneau, Cassandra Rush and Joseph Struttmann.

Haley Conkel is the daughter of Gary and Nancy Conkel. She has a 4.52 grade-point average.

Conkel is a member of Spanish Club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the clay team, the National Honor Society and her church's youth group. She is a junior mentor, a Spanish tutor and a Church of the Master intern.

Conkel plans to attend Wittenberg University to major in environmental science and Spanish. She has earned the Church of the Master scholarship, the Provost Scholarship from Wittenberg University and various grants.

Daniel Fay is the son of John and Cindy Fay. He has a 4.42 grade-point average.

Fay is a member of the swim team, football team, National Honor Society, symphonic mixed choir, Heritage Christian Church youth group and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He is a Boy Scout and a junior mentor.

Fay plans to attend Miami University of Ohio, where he will be a part of the honors program and major in bioengineering.

Simona Firestone is the daughter of Karin Kirk. She has a 4.62 grade point average.

Firestone is involved in bowling, horseback riding and Invisible Children.

She plans to earn her undergraduate degree in Scotland and to major in Spanish and Arabic.

Maxwell Hart is the son of Ted and Sara Hart. He has a 4.53 grade-point average.

Hart is a member of the soccer and tennis teams, Key Club, debate club and the National Honor Society. He participated in Buckeye Boys State.

Hart plans to major in pre-medicine at Ohio State University. He has earned the Honda-OSU Math Medal Award, the Maximus Scholarship from Ohio State University and honorable mention from the OCC in tennis.

Ashley Nowaczyk is the daughter of Alan and Lori Nowaczyk. She has a 4.54 grade-point average. Nowaczyk is a member of the winter guard and color guard.

She plans to attend Ohio State University or Miami University, and has partial academic scholarships to both universities.

Sean O'Donnell is the son of Matt and Terry O'Donnell. He has a 4.49 grade-point average.

O'Donnell is a member of the marching band, theater program, robotics team and National Honor Society.

He plans to study mechanical engineering at Cedarville University and has earned the Cedarville Academic Excellence Award.

Cara Parrish is the daughter of Dave and Kathy Parrish. She has a 4.43 grade point average.

Parrish is a member of the soccer team, National Honor Society and ski club.

She plans to major in engineering at Ohio State University, where she has earned the Provost Scholarship.

Taylor Reneau is the daughter of Jon and Julie Reneau. She has a 4.73 grade point average.

Reneau is a member of the track and tennis teams, and is a painter.

She plans to attend Harvard University to major in international economics. She was commended by the National Merit Scholarship program.

Cassandra Rush is the daughter of Mark and Tracy Rush. She has a 4.79 grade-point average.

Rush is a member of the girls soccer team, Renaissance, Key Club and the National Honor Society, and is a class officer. She was a Buckeye Girls State delegate, a John Glenn High School internist and an All-OCC Scholar Athlete.

Rush plans to attend the University of Notre Dame or OSU.

Joseph Struttmann is the son of Judith and Todd Struttmann. He has a 4.55 grade-point average.

He was a member of the cross-country and track teams, the National Honor Society, Key Club and orchestra.

Struttmann plans to study chemical engineering at OSU or the University of Cincinnati. He has been awarded scholarships to both.
