The top 10 graduating seniors from Westerville South High School were celebrated April 11 during the Westerville Kiwanis' 50th anniversary Academic Varsity awards banquet.

The top 10 graduating seniors from Westerville South High School were celebrated April 11 during the Westerville Kiwanis' 50th anniversary Academic Varsity awards banquet.

Honorees from Westerville South High School were Daniel Gruber, Rylee Holman, Alayna Johnson, Matin Moghaddas, Andrew Phillips, Christine Pope, Alexander Potts, Brian Rice, Olivia Sergent and Abigail Sutliff.

Gruber is the son of Dave and Kathy Gruber. He is a member of the wrestling, soccer and cross-country teams.

Gruber plans to study psychology at the University of Dayton, where he has been awarded a Trustee Scholarship.

Holman is the daughter of Bob and Tawnya Holman. She is a member of the basketball and volleyball teams and the National Honor Society.

Holman plans to attend Muskingum University. She has received the John Glenn Scholarship for full tuition.

Johnson is the daughter of Janet and Roger Johnson. She is a member of South's three choirs, the wind symphony and the National Honor Society. She has participated in the theater program for four years.

Johnson plans to attend Denison University to major in English writing and communications.

Moghaddas is the son of Javad Moghaddas and Fakhry Davoudi.

Moghaddas is a member of the chess club and the International Baccalaureate book club. He is a tutor and a hospital volunteer and practices tae kwon do.

Moghaddas plans to attend the six-year program at the Northeast Ohio Medical University, where he has received a BSMD Scholarship.

Phillips is the son of Dave and Debby Phillips. He is a member of the theater program, drama club, Ohio Energy Project and the National Honor Society.

He plans to study engineering at the Ohio State University, where he has earned the Ohio State Eminence Scholarship. Phillips also is a National Honor thespian and has received the Honda-Ohio State Partnership Math Medal award.

Pope is the daughter of Craig and Denise Pope. She is a member of the tennis team, student council and Renaissance. She is a cheerleader and is the secretary of the Young People's Division at St. John AME.

Pope plans to attend the University of Cincinnati, where she has been awarded the Cincinnatus Scholarship. She also has earned the Lindner College of Business Scholarship, the Darwin T. Turner Scholarship and the Cohen Scholarship.

Potts is the son of Mike and Melanie Potts. He is a member of the marching band, varsity tennis team, National Honor Society and Young Conservatives.

Potts plans to study engineering physics in the honors program at Ohio State University, where he has been awarded a Provost Scholarship. He also has earned a William H. Kidd Engineering Scholarship.

Rice is the son of Alice and Andrew Rice. He is a member of the theater program, the National Honor Society, the Leo Club and orchestra. He is a class officer.

Rice plans to attend Ohio State University, where he has earned the Maximus Award. He also has earned a Walter H. Kidd Engineering Scholarship.

Sergent is the daughter of Betsy Parker and Ashley Sergent. She is a member of the drama club, the National Honor Society and the Bella Voce and Soundsation choirs.

Sergent plans to study anthropology.
