A sledgehammer or similar tool was used to force open a side garage door while the residents were not at home, police reports said.

Silverware, jewelry, stamp and coin collections, a laptop computer, and a locked box containing personal documents were stolen, police said.

In other recent Westerville Division of Police incident reports:

* A 47-year-old woman was arrested for attempting to steal merchandise from a store in the 100 block of Polaris Parkway at 3:20 p.m. Aug. 13.

* A camera was reported stolen from an unlocked car parked in front of a house in the first block of Haddam Place between 10 p.m. Aug. 14 and 5 a.m. Aug. 15.

* The battery was stolen from a car parked in the lot of Mount Carmel St. Ann's Hospital, 500 S. Cleveland Ave., before 6:30 p.m. Aug. 17.

* A 30-year-old man and a 39-year-old man were arrested for attempting to steal $172 worth of merchandise from a store in the 100 block of Polaris Parkway at 3:55 p.m. Aug. 18.

* Blendon Township police reported a trailer was stolen from a parking lot in the 4300 block of Westerville Road Aug. 17.
