It's not just reading, writing and arithmetic.

This month's Ohio Health 4th Friday, the final one for the year, will highlight all things that make the Westerville City School District "Excellent with Distinction."

The OhioHealth 4th Friday: School Daze, organized by the Westerville Visitors and Convention Bureau, is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 28 in Uptown Westerville.

The Westerville school district will showcase its students, staff and academic excellence in the visitors and convention bureau's Youth Showcase area at 20 W. Main St.

Students and staff will present activities and demonstrate achievements in math, science, technology, language arts, performing and visual arts, social studies, health and wellness, and extracurricular activities.

The district also will set up tables with information about its programs.

"We invite everyone to visit our interactive displays, speak with our staff, discover why we've earned the state's highest rating of 'Excellent With Distinction' for the past two years, and learn how we're helping our students achieve at some of the highest academic levels than ever before," Westerville Superintendent Dan Good said.

Other educational institutions, including Otterbein University and area preschools, daycare centers and tutoring services, will set up informational displays as well.

Live music will be provided by the Strung Up! bluegrass band on the Arts Council of Westerville Music Stage in front of the Westerville Municipal Building, 21 S. State St., and Loosely Strung on the AAA Ohio Auto Club Music Stage at North State and East Home streets.

Students from Generations Performing Arts Center and Excel Martial Arts will demonstrate their skills on West College Avenue, and the Taoist Tai Chi Society will give demonstrations at 6:45 p.m. near the AAA stage.

The Westerville police and fire divisions will have information, displays and activities for children.

Other children's entertainment will include performances by the Westerville Puppet Posse, a bounce house, face painting and balloon creations, as well as story times with the Westerville Public Library personnel at Edward Jones Investments, 39 N. State St.

Westerville Special Olympics will sponsor A Pocket Full of Dreams sale in the Municipal Building courtyard. The sale will feature new and gently used purses, tote bags, wallets, belts and scarves, with all proceeds benefitting Special Olympics Ohio.

The Uptown Pharmacy, 23 N. State St., will offer flu shots during OhioHealth 4th Friday. Those age 14 and older will be able to stop at the pharmacy and be vaccinated with no appointment necessary.

As always during OhioHealth 4th Fridays, participating Uptown shops will remain open until 9 p.m., vendors will sell their goods and services, and Uptown eateries and food carts will offer a variety of food.
