Man faces OVI charge after drive in park

Westerville police arrested a 20-year-old man and charged him with operating a vehicle while intoxicated at 9:20 a.m. Nov. 11 at Dempsey Road and Hempstead Drive .

Police said witnesses called to report someone was driving through the grass and on the baseball fields at Huber Village Park.

When police pulled the man over, he told officers that he had been drinking all day, according to police reports. He was so intoxicated that he laid on the ground and fell asleep when officers asked him to step out of the car to conduct a sobriety test, reports said.

A field reading by police estimated the man's blood-alcohol content at 0.128.

A 17-year-old boy who also was in the car was charged with underage consumption of alcohol.

In other recent Westerville police incident reports:

* A 21-year-old woman was arrested at 8:05 p.m. Nov. 11 for attempting to steal $300 worth of merchandise from a store in the 100 block Polaris Parkway.

* A 31-year-old woman was arrested at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 17 for attempting to steal $419 worth of merchandise from a store in the 100 block of Huber Village Boulevard.

In addition to misdemeanor theft, the woman also was charged with three counts of drug possession, having an expired driving license, having an expired license plate and being in possession of a fictitious license plate.
